A Word from the Principal

Ever Mindful

Theme Verse:  Ps. 26:3
…for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love and lived in reliance on your faithfulness.

Let’s be frank.  If you are like me, there are inevitably times when you “tune out”.  Perhaps you’re in a conversation with someone at the end of the day, and they ask you how you’re doing.  You answer truthfully enough… but your mind has already drifted on to something else.  Your mouth goes on autopilot.  Pretty good- how about you?  You throw in some vacuous eye contact.  Your head actually nods up and down in apparent agreement, but it’s just a well-practiced, almost involuntary response, because instead of actively listening, you’re wondering What’s taking my kids so long?  or What’s for dinner? or Uh-oh…was I supposed to make dinner tonight?

At Christmas, with the break-neck pace of celebrations and distractions, it can be even more difficult for us to focus our attention on people or things that matter.

Our school theme this year is Ever Mindful and it is a call to walk through each day actively recalling God’s unfailing love and His faithfulness to us.  The Bible challenges us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and being ever mindful of His engagement in my own personal, day-to-day, past-present-future, story is the only way I can think to accomplish this.

At Christmas, we celebrate the start of the most astounding and penetrating act of love in the history of the universe:  Christ Jesus funneling his eternal identity into humanity in the form of a helpless, needy, baby.  Let’s be ever mindful of Him in the face of all the other things— both bad and good— about this season, for He deserves our focus.
