does New York City ... (yet again!) |
|
Monday, December 10th, 2007
Dear Parents:
Here it is— the long-awaited announcement (and request for funds!) for the 2008 BCS Major Trip.
As marked on your School Calendar, from April 29th – May 2nd the BCS Senior High students and staff will be taking school beyond our walls, beyond our city, and beyond our border on the 2008 Trip to New York City! |
|
The itineraries are set and they are exciting! Among the places our students will visit are: Times Square, The United Nations, Ground Zero, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Radio City Music Hall, Ellis Island, The Statue of Liberty, The Guggenheim Museum, Rockefeller Centre, The Museum of Modern Art, the Julliard School, and The Tenement Museum. They will also attend a Broadway Musical (Phantom of the Opera) and enjoy the cultural experience of a ball game at Yankee Stadium (May 1st: Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees)!
Because of theatre district strikes and the late release of the Yankees baseball schedule, we are a little behind in our process and need to collect a deposit on the cost of the trip as quickly as possible to book these venues. Fund request letters are never popular, I know, and they are even less so around Christmas time: however, we do need to continue with our planning.
The total cost for the trip (thanks to our strong dollar!) is very close to the cost of our New York trip four years ago: $ 680.00. In order to proceed, we need to collect and submit to our travel company at least a deposit of half the cost before Christmas. This will ensure that we can book all of the exciting events which we have only temporarily reserved.
Therefore, we have set Wednesday, December 19th as the due date for this deposit of $340.00. |
The remaining portion of the total cost ($340.00) will not be due until February 28th.
Accompanying this letter is the Registration Form including one of our sample Itineraries (in this case, the itinerary of those students on the “History” bus). This registration form must be returned with the deposit. Please be sure to fill in the information clearly and to sign the Parental Consent Form on the reverse. In addition, we have included information on Travel Guard Insurance. Though you do not need to purchase travel insurance, we do recommend it.
In terms of identification needed to cross the border, we strongly recommend that your son or daughter have a valid passport. This cuts down on the likelihood of problems arising at the border. Currently, U.S. Customs will accept two pieces of identification if one is a valid, government issued photo i.d. and the second is either a Birth Certificate or a Citizenship Card. Please refer to the following Canada Border Services Agency website for details:
We have posted information about the trip (the itineraries, payment schedule, travel insurance information) on the school website (www.bramptoncs.org).
We have also posted a five minute video of our BCS students on the 2004 trip to New York City for you to get a feel for some of the things we do there. These trips are incredible learning experiences as well as fantastic opportunities for students to build memories together.
If you have any questions, please email me directly: afcabral@bramptonsc.org.
Excitedly,
Andy Cabral
